We have some big news!!! No, it's not the big news that it seems like everyone has been waiting for... We're not pregnant yet. haha. But we've had some really monumental things happen in our life. The first bit of news started January 1st at church. Dane was called to be on the high council in the Cambridge Massachusetts Stake. I was blown away by this call. Dane was excited to get to work with the youth of the stake. As well as (coincidentally) the scouts of the stake until someone else is called to fill that vacancy. So Dane is back to early morning and late night meetings. This as well as working hard on his classes. So far it hasn't been too time consuming, but we'll see how things develop as Dane becomes more familiar with his responsibilities.
The second bit of exciting news is that Dane got the 3 year military scholarship from the Army! Whew! Dane got a voice mail from the army recruiter and called Sgt. Johns back. He let Dane know that he got the scholarship. We were shocked. We had counted that out, and had moved on. Even Sgt. Johns was blown away that he got it. At first we were like, "um... do we want to do this?" After about a half an hour we were like, "we'd be stupid not to do this." So we are moving forward with the Army. What this means is that the Army will pay for Dane's remaining 3 years of dental school and when Dane graduates he will pay them back with 3 years of service in the Army. The pros are - Dane gets experience as a dentist and can increase his speed and skills so once we've paid the Army back Dane will be better prepared to take care of a practice of people; we will be able to pay off our debt by the end of our 3 years; we may get stationed in Hawaii! (it's a long shot, but there is about as much of a chance of that as Dane had to actually get the scholarship). The cons - Dane has a good shot at having a 4 1/2 - 6 month tour in Afghanistan or where ever a war may be in the next 3 years. Overall we are so excited to have this blessing. We really believe that this is like a little present from Heavenly Father. We couldn't have done it without Him.
Yes! COME to Hawaii!
